Kolkata, the city of joy is a place that covers a total area of 1886.67 km². The dense populated land makes it absolutely necessary to have a good number of transport facilities. It has the slowest mode of transport – tram – to the fastest metro services to cater to the 5 million people approx. and is regarded as the most progressive city. Despite all these facilities, the regular commuters of Kolkata face a tough time ahead at the streets regularly. Thanks to the upcoming monorail project that will come up soon in the Rajarhat area, which is presently the home of many IT companies. Sarda Group is a promoter of this grand project.
Scomi Engineering, a company based in Malaysia who has realised many such projects globally has been assigned this work. It has been hoped that this project will provide employment to many people and will surely improve the condition of Kolkata. The monorail project has been aimed to disperse the crowd that will come from the East-west metro. The new line is about to come up in the recent future. The Garia to airport metro line will pass over the Rajarhat area. And thus this plan has been undertaken. The estimated distance that will be covered by the monorail project of 16 km. Plans has been made that it will be of two parts so that the whole area can be covered easily and people will have a good time.
Battery operated vehicles will also be started shortly in this particular area. The monorail project is hoped to ease the transport woes. Ghanshyam Sarda, the owner of the 2500 crore Sarda Group has been actively involved in the project. The monorail project will actually help the people who travel from all around the city and also other parts of the Kolkata to the Rajarhat area.
