The current situation of the jute industry in India has taken the worse turn. The murder of the CEO at the Northbrook jute mill has taken the industry by storm. The Northbrook jute mill recently witnessed a great furore and a ruckus happened over there.
The brutal murder of the CEO has sent shivers to the spine of the industry and it has already been affected by it. The CEO was surrounded by outsiders and brutally hit on the head. The murder has been purely blamed on anti- socials and the management has denied any inside involvement in the matter.
The incident at Northbrook has taken the entire jute industry by storm. Ghanshyam Sarda is one of the top line industrialists from the state of West Bengal and has come up with successful projects. He has invested diversely in some of the sectors like jute, petrochemicals and education.
If the condition of the entire jute industry in the state of West Bengal and other parts of India is reviewed, it is not looking good at all. The central and the state governments were previously alerted in this regard but no such heed has been paid. The entire manufacturing and production in the jute sector has taken a real backseat.
Production in most of the jute mills across India has stopped and many of them are on the brink of closure. The Northbrook jute mill has already closed down after the heinous murder. With little or no orders for jute bags, more than 2 million people in the state of West Bengal is already affected by the great jeopardy in the industry. The Northbrook mill has 4,200 workers in all and already the mill has closed down.
Multiple numbers of unions at the jute mill have also affected the daily operations of the industry. Previously, the CITU led union used to take care of all the matters but the current union has failed miserably in this regard. As one of the pioneer industrial houses from the state of West Bengal, the Ghanshyam Sarda Kolkata group vehemently protests the unionism which has affected the industry up till now. The unionism has only taken the industry backwards. The local union leaders are creating a heavy ruckus in many jute mills.
The entire industry needs to come together in this time of crisis and resolve the situation at the earliest. The state and the central governments need to do something in this regard immediately. The officials at the Industrial Jute Mills Association are quite worried about the problem. An appointment with the chief minister of the state of West Bengal has been sought in this regard. The entire industry hopes that the chief minister will take some immediate actions in order to resolve the situation. The union related problem can be reduced by appointing bargaining agents at the jute mill. The local union leaders also need to cooperate with the mill owners to reach the best possible solution.
